On the December 4th, 2013 Episode of Liberal Dan Radio:

I am back. After a month of vacation and sickness I am back and I am angry at my own party over what happened with the filibuster. It was wrong. I talk about some of my feelings over at the blog. However, in this show I will review how the nuclear option works, my history of being opposed to it, and how hypocrisy abounds on both sides of the aisle with its use.

There are also more updates about the Affordable Care Act. See how some insurers acted in bad faith in forcing people to lose their policies that they liked. I will also discuss an anecdotal success story coming from a Republican who likes the plan she got.

Finally, someone posted a picture of a science test that includes questions about God. The school was non-public and religious. I will explain why having such subjects as part of the curriculum is harmful to both the children at the school and to society as a whole.

All that, headlines, words of redneck wisdom, tweet of the week, an update from Bryan at Cool Mini Or Not and more tonight on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From the Left, That’s Right!

  1. Hi Dan,
First time reader and responder. Sorry to get off topic, not sure where to go to start a thread.

My question is this, In New Orleans, the FEMA flood maps have been re drawn from the 1984 zone maps and most people will benefit from the new maps, some not; why can’t the new maps be enforced along with the new protocol of elevation certificates as of October 1st?
I don’t understand how one standard that affects everyone and has been instituted already as of October 1, 2013 but the results, which are paid for by new homeowners and required now, aren’t enforced?
If the rules aren’t going to be enforced….why do we have to pay for them?
    Sincerely,
    A very concerned constituent

    1. I will have to look into that and get back to you. The flood insurance rate issue is going to be an important part of the upcoming Senatorial race down here and I will definitely be covering both that issue and the race itself. If you have any more information on it please do not hesitate to share.

  2. Dan,
Thank you so much for responding. I sent a similar letter to Mayor Landreu’s office and received a response from his campaign rep Ryan Berni. The response was “Pressing On” and he sent video of the Mayor’s campaign re election that was aired during the Saints game on Sunday.
He quoted, “Adam, Did you catch it?” My thoughts were that he must mean that it is a campaign issue for the Mayor, best guess on my part. I hope I get a better answer than this from his office.
Since you are much smarter than me on these issues, I wanted to ask your followers if the maps have been passed by FEMA already, and the part of the law requiring new homeowners to have elevation certificates on their property is already in effect as of October 1st, and we are paying local taxes on this “required service” now, but the rest of the regulations aren’t being enforced by the insurance companies here by dragging their feet for say…a re election campaign….then the delay is politically motivated.
The danger in this approach, In my eyes, would be very close to the definition of Taxation without Representation. This is where I need the help, I don’t know this for a fact.

    Thank you for listening
    A concerned constituent
    A. Ward
