On the January 15th, 2014 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
There is a proposed noise ordinance in the City of New Orleans that will be debated this week at City Hall. It will cover loud music in the French Quarter. Are local businesses allowing their music to play too loud? Or are people wanting to change the culture of New Orleans from what it is to something different? Is there a constitutional right to make noise? I will go into those issues and I plan to have guests on to discuss the issue.
I also plan on discussing the West Virginia chemical spill. Could it have been prevented? Why does this help prove that Republicans just don’t have our best interests in mind.
Those issues, tweet of the week, words of redneck wisdom, headlines and more on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That’s Right!

Does your DNA belong to you? A lawsuit has been filed against Myriad Genetics. Myriad claims to own the gene BRCA1, the same gene used to determine that Angelina Jolie has a higher risk of breast cancer than normal. It also claims to own the BRCA2 gene as well. Can one own a patent on a gene that your own body creates? Can one own a patent on a design on how to test for those genes? Can one own a patent on all forms of ways to test for those genes regardless of if they develop those tests or not? I will go over the myriad issues surrounding this case and what it means for individuals who are seeking to see if they are also at risk.
Also, a Florida high school student who is 18 has been charged with raping her 15 year old female classmate. Some are blaming the religious beliefs of the 15 year old girl as the cause of the charges against the older student. Is it really correct to make this a gay rights issue? Would religious parents have accepted it had the 18 year old student been male?
Finally, a new Planned Parenthood will be opening in New Orleans. I will go over the arguments made by those opposed to the opening of this new center and explain why they are horribly wrong.

There is a movement growing to save the New Orleans based newspaper Times Picayune from becoming a 3 day a week only paper. People want this paper to be a daily paper and are upset that they wont have access to the daily news. Me? I say let it die.
And this is not just about my personal annoyance with them when they reported me as a Republican twice in the 2004 Congressional race. I mean, that is part of the problem. A lack of professionalism is the only explanation for that kind of error. It is not like the information was wrong on the ballot or on the website. That information was all correct. The T-P was just so sloppy that not only did they get it wrong on the Sunday paper, but they got it wrong on the Tuesday paper after I called to correct them.
But this is not just about me. This is about the direction that the media has taken. The Times Picayune used to be a local paper. Now it is owned by a media conglomerate. It used to be that reporters would embrace their duty to inform. Now, with profit being the main driving factor in the media, the duty to inform takes a back seat to making sure that those politicians who will buy advertising will not be mad at your coverage.
So I say flush the T-P. Make it so unprofitable that Advance has to sell it. Then perhaps they will sell it to a local company who will make it into the paper that it should be. Until then, it is not worth saving.
