As it had been speculated, yesterday former Louisiana Governor and convicted felon Edwin Edwards announced his candidacy for Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District. And as I had predicted, there are Democrats in Louisiana who are rallying to his cause and there are national articles putting a spotlight on this spectacle already.
When Edwin Edwards was Governor, he was credited as being a populist and as being someone who did some good for the people of Louisiana. Edwards was applauded, and rightly so, for being a staunch supporter of civil rights. He appointed minorities and women to positions more than any of his predecessors. But ultimately he will be remembered for his corruption conviction and 8 year prison term. Some might ask “as long as he helped people, who cares if he skims a little off the top for himself?”. Well, I care. You cannot tell me that there are no other qualified people who can do the right thing while not having a tarnished image of a crook. The ends do not justify the means. His conviction means that he put his own needs and desires above the needs of the people of Louisiana. And he has not changed…
Why do I suggest that he hasn’t changed? Well, his candidacy is all about him. He is someone who seems to be addicted to the public spotlight. He also doesn’t care that the spotlight is going to be an embarrassment to to the people of Louisiana and to the Democratic party whose banner he is running under. David Vitter was supposed to be the embarrassment to Louisiana running for office this time.
And he isn’t even a good banner holder for the party. One of the first things he said in his announcement was that he would not have voted for the Affordable Care Act. Seriously? The guy who is supposed to be able to bring out the minority vote in an off year election is going to be running on a platform that includes his opposition to the signature piece of legislation that President Obama was able to get passed?
And remember, it was Edwards who helped make it possible for folks like Bobby Jindal to run on his fraudulent ethics reform campaign. He put a recent face to the historical corruption that existed in Louisiana. Do we really want that rehashed? Do we really want to hand the GOP the ammunition it needs to continue the claims that the Democratic Party is about corruption in this state (while allowing the Republicans to hide their own corruption)? I do not want that.
But ultimately this is about doing the right thing. The right thing would be for Edwin Edwards to just go away. But since he seems incapable of doing so, the right thing for the rest of the Louisiana Democratic Party would be to just openly shun him and his candidacy. And let’s say he is able to pull off a miracle and win that seat. Will it be worth it? Of course not. Again, the ends do not justify the means. Selling out our values for a seat makes us no better than the GOP. And if you cannot win the seat in the right way, then perhaps it is time to pack up shop and go home.
On the March 19, 2014 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
Have you ever wished you had a way to make sure that the items you purchase are not funding causes you disagree with? The old fashioned way of protesting when companies supported causes you did not agree with was to join a large group and to make a large show of it and hope others will join in. Well, I am going to talk to Austen Hoogan, creator of the idea called CottBot, and discuss his upcoming crowd-funding campagn to support this free mobile application. Instead of boycotting one business for violating one of your ideals, you can boycott all businesses who violate all your ideals.
Then I will be discussing #retakeCongress, the hashtag I will be using to discuss the upcoming 2014 elections and what needs to be done to take Congress back. First up is Ron Dickey, candidate for Congress in the MS01 Congressional district. I will discuss with Ron how his campaign is going, what his priorities would be when he goes to Congress, and how he intends on making that a reality.
And then I will discuss the candidacy of Edwin Edwards for Congress in Louisiana’s 6th congressional district. Yup, he went ahead and did it. And I will talk about it some more becuase it is important.

On the March 12, 2014 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
I will first discuss a horrible attack ad I saw today by Cynthia Hedge-Morrell and explain why she is no better than Senate Conservatives.
I review what happened at CPAC. Straw polls, random musing, speeches, hypocrisy and all the other “good stuff” that can only come from a convention of tea party supporters.
I will also bring up charter schools. With what is going on in New York there has been some additional chatter happening about if these charter schools best serve the community. Some schools may have success. But at what cost?
Finally, Bobby Jindal has yet again proven himself to be a hypocrite. I will explain why this is nothing new.

Old E.W.E, otherwise known as Edwin Edwards, the former governor of Louisiana and convicted felon is apparently mulling a run for Congress. When asked, Edwards stated that he didn’t have any comment at this time. This is otherwise political speech for “yes, I intend to”. Until we get a final answer from former Governor Edwards, I have some thoughts on the issue.
Last year the Louisiana food stamp program had an error which caused to some people to overcharge their cards for food. I will talk about how many people were punished for what the GOP calls rampant fraud and abuse.
Mardi Gras is coming up next week in the City of New Orleans. Some new laws have been passed to cover some activities along the parade route. I will talk about some of those and if they are good for the city.
And finally I have to talk about the Michael Dunn case. He was found guilty on most charges. I will explain why this isn’t the travesty of justice that some are claiming as well as why it also doesn’t mean that Florida is in the clear.

David Vitter is running for Governor. His involvement with prostitutes in his past is bound to be a major issue that opponents bring up. In the most recent episode of Liberal Dan Radio I even brought up why Vitter is violated his own stated principles by not resigning from office and by continuing to seek elected office after cheating on his wife, especially in the illegal way that he committed adultery (i.e. with prostitutes).
I also think it is important that we expose the prostitutes that David Vitter does business with. No, I am not speaking of the sex workers. I am speaking of the political opportunists and hypocrites who swam to support David Vitter who would otherwise not do so.
In regards to the Vitter candidacy, Gene Mills (President of the Louisiana Family Forum) stated:
Sen. Vitter has been a stellar example of the conservative legislator… From a biblical standpoint, David sought counseling form his church (after the 2007 DC Madam scandal). He sought counseling and reconciliation with his wife…I think it’s probably a healthy example of how imperfect hearts — how this world is made up of only that.
Now, are we to believe that such a statement would have been made for a liberal who had been caught up in a sex scandal? Even in Louisiana, Republicans who drift from their path that they are supposed to follow are shunned. So what is going on here? Why is this ultra socially conservative group support a “whoremonger”?
The answer is clear: Money. In FY 2008 Senator Vitter earmarked funds for the Louisiana Family Forum in the amount of $100,000 to help them promote faith based creation “science”. After the controversy over that earmark, the funds were moved to Ouachita Parish School Board, an entity that consistently promotes creationist ideas and has close ties to the Louisiana Family Forum. Vitter has also hired members of the Louisiana Family Forum on his campaigns, showing an additional financial closeness between himself and the LFF.
It seems clear to this blogger that the Louisiana Family Forum is willing to bend over backwards (or forwards) for any sinful politician that sends money their way, especially for one Senator David Vitter. This is why they are clearly one of the David Vitter Prostitutes.
On the January 22nd, 2014 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
The worst kept secret in Louisiana politics was revealed this week. Louisiana’s junior senator David Vitter has announced his candidacy for governor. Current governor Bobby Jindal is term limited and has to sit out a term before running again. Vitter is already pushing a “family values” campaign via his surrogates and that means the gloves come off when it comes to his involvement in the DC Madam scandal. Regardless of his “serious sins” I will go into why Vitter is bad for Louisiana. I will also explain why his own words make him inelligible to serve office according to his own standards.
Florida is at it again. Yet another shooting has taken place for no reason. Curtis Reeves, a former police captain, shot somebody over him sending text messages during the previews. And, of course, Reeves is claiming “self defense”. Now, nobody can say if that claim will be successful in court until the trial happens. However, if it does, this will be evidence that Florida law is absolutely ridiculous.
A Milwaukee couple was running a private, Christian, voucher school and that school abruptly closed down last month. What students did they serve? What happens to them now? And where are the owners? The answers to at least some might surprise you.
All that plus and update on the New Orleans noise ordinance, headlines, tweet of the week, words of redneck wisdom, and more this week on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That’s Right.
Richard Perque is running for traffic court judge in New Orleans. A lot of my friends are supporting him. I voted for him. Oh,and there is something else unrelated to his qualifications for Judge: he is openly gay. Yes, he shares the fact on his campaign website. But in reality it has nothing to do with his qualifications.
Other people disagree. For some reason they believe that because he is openly gay he would have some problem determining if someone was speeding or not. A hate piece has just been mailed out suggesting that people should think “long and hard” about this candidate.
The flyer was mailed out by the “Committee for Common Decency”. While such hatred is all to common in Louisiana, I find nothing decent about it. According to the above article, there is no such committee in the State of Louisiana. There are laws in Louisiana that require certain reporting for paid political activities (especially this close to an election). I doubt this mailer was reported to the state. And that leads me to the question posed in the title of this post.
If a printing company is creating a political flyer, shouldn’t it be required to affirm that the information on the flyer is factual (at least the required information about who paid for it)? If they are not, then you wind up with anonymous hate flyers like this mailed out. If the law doesn’t require printing companies to verify this information, it should.
On the October 16, 2013 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
The debt ceiling and government shutdown debates are supposedly coming to an end (at least in the short term). I am not holding my breath until the last vote passes as the President signs the bill into law. But why are we having this insantity? Who is to blame? Is there shared blame? Some Conservatives are even saying that President Obama is to blame for all the divisiveness we are having in this country. Is that another example of insanity?
Steve Scalise (R-LA) has an “alternative” healthcare proposal on his website that other Conservatives are also supporting. That policy, in and of itself, is insane. I will go into that explanation as well.
There is insanity in other areas as well. Zero tolerance policies are another example of insanity. A high school teenager who did the right thing is one of the most recent victims of these insane policies.
Insanity even takes place in the air. A passenger on one airline was forced to purchase two seats. Listen to why this is insane in headlines and I will discuss it more in the show.
Have any more examples of insanity, call in (or respond to the Liberaldan.com blog post if you are not listening live and share your ideas).

On the August 15th 2013 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:
It was bound to happen since I do not always agree with my fellow liberals. On this show I am going to touch on several subjects where I will be critical of some liberals.
The MSNBC show All In With Chris they are requesting stories about income inequality and are labelling the campaign “#maximumwage“. It sounds like they are trying to solve the problems of the income inequality that happen in our country with setting a limit on how much someone can earn. I will go over some examples of what maximum wage supporters propose and why they absolutely will not work to solve income inequality.
On last week’s show I really was unable to get into education as much as I should have. So I will be going over some of the problems that Orleans Parish is having with delivering services to children with developmental disabilities.
Finally, everyone is talking about the Obama clown. I will explain from the liberal point of view why everyone is completely overreacting about this.

And remember, please help the show expand and contribute to the Kickstarter.
On Liberal Dan Radio for July 11, 2013:
Bobby Jindal has not only cut the budget when it comes to individuals with developmental disabilities, he has also cut funding for domestic violence and is draining the Elderly Trust Fund. Tonight I will speak with Bambi Polotzola (one of the grassroots supporters of the effort to override the veto). I will mostly focus on the funding for individuals with developmental disabilities. However, I will be making some comments on the other cuts.
I will also go into some of the issues I am having with the George Zimmerman trial.
Finally, even though the first Kickstarter failed, I have already turned around and started another one. You can back the Liberal Dan Radio Kickstarter here.
